Hmm... your comment seems a bit invalid without a reason don't you think? (great icon by the way)
Really though, why would you say that?

i just think it's really silly and immature to judge someone based on their looks, favorite bands, and not much more. i think it's really lame...

i also don't like the name. i don't want this shit getting all mixed up with riot grrl, 'cos i think this is stupid, and it doesn't mesh with riot grrl.

Well, i'm sure quite a few of my members would beg to differ. We've got quite a few riot grrls in here... myself included.

A lot of the people in here were into rating communities on LJ but were recieving biased votes based on their sexuality or based on the fact they didn't fit into a gender-role looks wise.

Our application is designed in such a way that we find out a lot about a person. It's actually very in-depth. Did you take the time to read it? We really want people to be able to be themselves and express that. We want to hear about what people are passionate about. We want to know what you shout when you get up on your soap-box. We want to know what you think about. We typically judge on someone's ability to express that. We reject very few people... the application is more ment to give us an insight into what makes you, well- you. Our typical rejected applicant is someone that gave one-word answers, and we usually invite people to reapply with more content.

It's ashame that you don't think empowered women mesh with riot grrl because that's what this community is filled with. Wonderful empowered women. I stand behind that statement 100%. I still agree that you're intitled to your opinion, but whatever generalizations you have towards typical online rating are certainly not what we're about. :)

too bad that when they do, they get ripped apart because they like a band that the rest of the girls don't like, or the girls in the comm think they're ugly, or whatever! lame.

That's so far from the truth. We're not your average rating community. This isn't [info]tinyrockets. We don't "rip people apart". That's awful! I can honestly say that since I created this community, i've never seen someone dish out a no vote without solid reasoning that was never based on something so trivial... votes are usually given reasons and backing and are based more on someone's ability to answer thoroughly. Most no votes I see here are because someone didn't take the time to provide an in-depth application and we felt as though we didn't get to know them well enough. (and again, when this happens people are usually encouraged to reapply.) We have a 4% rejection rate while the average LJ rating community rejects about 63% of potential members.

It's also seldom i've seen a no given for pictures without positive feedback as to how they can improve a particular segment of the application.

I find this borderline hilarious... You say this community is immature yet you come here saying something as childish as "this shit is ridiculous" without even taking the time to find out what the community is really like.

I highly doubt you would, but i'd suggest submitting an application. It would seriously blow your crazy theory about us out of the water completely. You should really take the time to learn more about something before you go spewing unjustified and uneducated opinions, miss. :\

Either way, I appreciate your feedback.

Hey doll face!
I'm Ghoulina, one of the other MODS. And it's nice to speak you. I hope you don't mind if I insert my opinion in here.
:]

First off, just out of curiosity, have you ever actively participated in rating communities? Like on a consistant basis? Or are you just giving an...outside/side line point of you, I guess you can call it.

But we're a rating community. We rate, judge, and give opinions. Of course we are considered unfair, (from outsider opinions and views...those who don't participate in rating communities) shallow, harsh, and whatever else. But for those who actually participate in rating communities, we're no more "unfair" than any other community.

And we, by no means, are harsh. Just take a look at NUL...shallow and harsh and over the top rudeness. We're not like that...at all. I mean, yeah we can be a little...catty at times. But hell, you have that in any community. I mean, we don't go out of our way to insult people. We're not intentionally cruel. Personally, I find people who are intentionally cruel to be childish. And it not only shows how mature they are...but it also shows their intellience level.

We give reasonable explainations to back our "no" votes up-- without insults and childishness. And we don't just point out the negatives and the flaws...we point out the good things too. I can honestly tell you, we don't base our votes just soley on looks and bands. I mean, yeah every apple barrel has a bad apple or two. But, I have never in my entire time being in this community (which was since it was created) have seen a girl take a crack at someone's looks. But yeah- most all of the accepted ladies who, which i speak with on a regular basis (and we discuss the community/it's applicants, as well as other things), don't vote on that. We look for individuality, maturity, effort, personality, activism, blah, blah, blah. The list goes on an on with a variety of things, you know?

p.s. nice icon. It is total love.

i have never participated in a rating community... mostly 'cos i'm afraid of getting my feelings hurt!

you two have really swayed my opinion, though.

i dunno... maybe i will join a rating comm... just to see what happens. are there any out there that are similar to this one that are open to straight girls?

Silly goose :P! How can you sit there and say we're lame (shallow, ridiculous and blah, blah, blah) when you really haven't experienced us...or rating communities in general? Your opinion, to me, seems very one sided, biased, and uneducated all because you don't want to get your feelings hurt...
(and, sweetie, I mean NO disrespect with this comment...)

As for rating communities, you have to be the one to decide if they're for you or not. There are over-the-top harsh communities and then there are communities that rate on personality alone. You know, you just have to find the communities that are right FOR YOU. You also have to keep in mind what you're going to get into (if the community says "we're HARSH" you should brace yourself for assholes and mean comments).

I've been in TONS of rating communities over the years...I have been brutally ripped apart piece-by-piece and insulted (and I have even thrown insults right back), but you know what? I didn't let it phase me because I knew what I was getting into. That and it's the internet.

But yeaah- Rating communities are fun and interesting. And it's a wonderful way of meeting people who have interests similar to yours. And if you get rejected...don't get discouraged. There are a TON (literally) of other communities out there.

hey yall, I was just wondering something and I figured here would be a good place to ask?
I posted an updated application a while ago and asked that it replace my old one on the member's page. that didn't actually happen... um, I guess I'm wondering if it can?
lemme know, thanks guys.

also random suggestion, In the applications I'd replace "age" with "birth date", so then the people who are here for years don't have to update things.

oh and one thing, is it alright for me to update my app info?
like little stuff (add a recent photo, update location)?
I noticed it is the main way for new members to get to know the people in the community so I thought it might be alright for me to just edit the entry to keep it updated, then you don't have to post a new one for me every time.

Active Community?

I made a request to join a short while ago, but have yet to have been allowed in to post my app. I've got it filled out and did the promo's, and have a real interest in possibly joining.

I've noticed a few other people asking if the community is active, and I haven't really seen any responses. I'm especially worried this community has gone under as I read one of the public posts and it seemed as though the community was thinking of redefining itself or the likes.

Could someone let me know if this community is still alive and active? Also, if possible, could it be explained why the delay in being able to join (for purposes of posting an app, I mean)?

Thank you very much, gals.
